IIT stands for Indian Institute of Technology and NIT stands for National Institute of Technology.

Both IIT and NIT are not same.

According to Ranking IITs comes in first position and NITs comes in second position.

these two are top most technical organization in India for study as well as technical research. there are so many IIT institution as well as NIT institution. although both the Institutions are for technical study till there are so many difference between these two.


the structure, syllabus etc are totally different for IIT and NIT. although NIT and IIT are almost rated similar till IIT is in top position. the educational environment, syllabus, way of study is more preferable in IIT then NIT. but after IIT obviously there come NIT for the technical study.


if anyone get chance to take admission in IIT and NIT at the same time in same course. student generally prefer IIT.

IIT's and NIT's are Same with Respect to purpose of Study i.e Graduation in Engineering , Post Graduation in Engineering or Technology etc.

But they are Different with respect to Infrastructure, with Respect to Entrance Exam of them.

IIT JEE is an Exam which is a mode of getting admissions in Various IIT's. But AIEEE is an Exam which is used to Get Admission in various NIT's.

As seen from placements point of View, IIT leads than NIT's. because IIT's are Top ranker Colleges in India and followed by NIT's.

But these Day's NIT's doesn't seems to be Good because Most of the Private colleges are taking lead from NIT's if you see both Private and Government Ranking in a same List.

in case if you are not the citizen of delhi then your rank should be under 4000 for general category.

in case if you are the citizen of delhi....there is 80%qoute for them..... then your rank should be under 10000 for general category.

IITs are above IITs . But some of NITs ie NIT trichy ,wrangal and calicut are having approximately same level an IITs. Also branch matters if you are getting good or core branches in top NITs and getting less preferred branches in IITs then you have the option to join NITs.
