I think both directions have prospects in the future and intersect in many ways. You need to build on your interests, abilities and goals

Information Science and Electronics and Communication Engineering are two distinct fields within the broader domain of engineering and technology. Here's a comparison between the two to help you understand their differences:

1. Information Science:
- Information Science focuses on the management, analysis, and utilization of information and data.
- It involves the study of data structures, algorithms, database systems, information retrieval, data analytics, and machine learning.
- Information Scientists work with information systems, software development, data analysis, data modeling, and information security.
- Careers in Information Science can include roles such as data analysts, database administrators, information systems managers, and data scientists.

2. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE):
- Electronics and Communication Engineering deals with the design, development, and maintenance of electronic devices, communication systems, and networks.
- It involves the study of electronic circuits, digital systems, signal processing, communication systems, microprocessors, and embedded systems.
- ECE professionals work in areas such as electronics manufacturing, telecommunications, networking, semiconductor industry, and research and development.
- Careers in ECE can include roles such as electronics engineer, telecommunications engineer, network engineer, embedded systems engineer, and research scientist.

Key Differences:
- Information Science focuses on information management, data analysis, and software development, while ECE focuses on electronic devices, communication systems, and network technologies.
- Information Science is more focused on data-driven technologies and applications, while ECE is more focused on hardware, communication protocols, and electronic systems.
- Information Science professionals primarily work with software and data, while ECE professionals work with hardware components, electronic circuits, and communication systems.
- The career paths and job opportunities in Information Science and ECE can vary, with Information Science having more emphasis on data-driven roles and ECE having more emphasis on electronics and communication-related roles.

Ultimately, the choice between Information Science and Electronics and Communication Engineering depends on your interests, career goals, and the specific skills and knowledge you want to acquire. It is advisable to thoroughly research the curriculum, job prospects, and industry trends in both fields to make an informed decision. Consider your aptitude, personal preferences, and long-term career goals to choose the field that aligns with your interests and aspirations.

As far as the career scope is concerned both Information Science/Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering are almost equivalent as students with B.Tech. degree in these disciplines do get jobs with high packages if they have done their degree from a good engineering college and have acquired the skills as per the job requirements during their academic degree.

But, at the same time, Information Science/Technology is good for you if you are interested in the coding field while the ECE discipline curriculum will allow you to get into various industries like the Semiconductor industry, Communication field, Coding field, Hardware Engineering, etc. because its curriculum is so diverse and hence requires more dedication during the academics.

As far as government/PSU job options are concerned, ECE people in general have more opportunities as compared to that available for CS/IT candidates.

But, at last, I will advise you to go for that discipline in which you have an interest as both these disciplines will offer you ample opportunities in their respective fields if you work honestly during your academics.
