If you really want to perform for the best i will suggest you to purchase a book of solved papers which will guide you a lot you may purchase 10 years solved paper of made easy publication it contains previous years solved paper along with 3 model papers so purchase it from any book corner it will help you .

To get good scor ein gate exam first you cover your basic subject just like Data structure, computation theory ,computer system organigation bcoz these subject help u to clear gate written exam and to clear out interview of perticular IIT or NIIT institute also...

To clear that exam just prepare the core subjects of ur branch very deep it help to clear ur written as well as ur screening (interview also)
