The syllabus of the written examination conducted to the candidates who appear in Income Tax / Central Excise Inspectors Examination is provided hereunder. English Language Proficiency -- 25 Questions This Section Contains: Verb Adverb Error Correction Comprehension Answering questions based on Unseen Passages Vocabulary Synonyms Antonyms Spellings One word substitution etc. General Knowledge -- 25 Questions This section contains: History, culture, geography of Punjab Current Affairs (National and Punjab) Major Financial/Economic News Appointments Sports Books and Authors Awards and Honours Science - Inventions and Discoveries Abbreviations Important Days International and National Organisations Mental Ability -- 50 Questions This section contains: Verbal Number Series Alphabet Series Test of Direction Sense Coding-Decoding Number Ranking Arithmetical Reasoning Problem on Age Calculation Blood Relations Analogy Decision Making Syllogism etc. NON-VERBAL Non Verbal Series Mirror Images Cubes and Dice Grouping Identical Figures Embedded Figures etc Mathematical Skills -- 50 Questions This section contains: Number System HCF, LCM Simplification Decimal Fractions Ratio and Proportions Unitary Method Percentage Time Speed and Distance Time and Work Profit and Loss Average Simple and Compound Interest Mensuration (2D and 3D) etc. The questions in all the four tests will be of "Objective Multiple-Choice Type". You will be required to qualify in each of the four tests separately. The commission will have full discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in each of the four tests. |

Syllabus for the post excise and taxation inspector
General Intelligence: It would contain questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualisation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation related concepts, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidates abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and their analytical functions. General English: Questions in this test will be designed to assess the knowledge of English language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms etc. There will also be a question on comprehension of a passage. Arithmetical Ability: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidates to perform fundamental arithmetical operations and his skill in working our problems relating to percentages, ratio and proportion, average estimation, rounding numbers, use of tables and graphs, mensuration, time and distance, ratio and time. General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidates general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries, especially pertaining to history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity and scientific research. Note: (i) The questions in all the four tests will be of "Objective Multiple-Choice Type". (ii) Candidates will be required to qualify in each of the four tests separately. The commission will have full discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in each of the four tests. (iii) Only those candidates who qualify in each of the four tests would be eligible for being called for personality test (interview) which will carry 100 marks. |
