EXTENSION FOR WORD DOCUMENTS

The widely used file extension name of word documents is as follows..

-> .doc which is named as documents.

-> .doc file extension is been replaced as the default format by the new XML based Office Open XML format which as .docx or .docm.

-> .docx file extension for word documents works only in Microsoft Office 2007 and not in Microsoft Office 2003.

-> .doc file is supported in bot Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007.

Word 2007 File Type Extension:-
1) .docx reperesents XML Document
2) .docm reperesents XML Macro-Enabled Document
3) .dotx reperesents XML Template
4) .dotm reperesents XML Macro-Enabled Template

.doc represents word documents in Microsoft 2003 & Microsoft 2007 both.

The file extension in the word are saved in (txt.doc). for example if you type

a file and saved in the document format i.e filename.doc

if you save with .doc that represents MS word document

.doc is not work in MS OFFICE 2003
it is work in in 2007
.doc file is work in both microsoft office 2003 and 2007.
you can write the text and copy the pictures in word document.

The general formats which are used and observed while saving the word document are as follows:

1) docx format: it is the default Word 2007/2010 extension.
2) dotx and dotm: it is the extension for Word 2007/2010 template files.
3) doc: it is the extension for Word 97-2003 format.
4) dot: it is the extension for Word 97-2003 template format.
