what are the main subjects for government jobs through mechanical engineering

mechanical engineers go either to the software side called design or hardware side called manufacturing. the main thing u should have is the domain knowledge that is the most important subjects starts with the workshop technology combines with the engineering drawing which is the heart for mechanical engineering.

Mechanical engineering is a vast field and it covers more than 60 courses in four years BE/B.tech program.Due to advancement in robotics new branch emerged- Mechatronics which include the concepts from mechanical and electronics engineering.Good knowledge in any one of the following can provide desired job to mechanical engineers-

Design-Design is the only field which separate the engineering from science where every product before actual production undergoes through a critical design process where it is tested on the basis of various parameters.Design softwares are-Unigraphics ( popularly known as NX), CATIA,Solidworks,PRO-E,Autocad,Master CAM,Nastran, Ansys. job as a designer is the only job where mechanical engineers do work in a room where no noise or pollution ,otherwise all the jobs are slightly risky.

Production - Sound knowledge of manufacturing technologies is essential for production engineers.Industrial management is another field used in production of any part.It is the only field where large number of career growth options are available.Due to fluctuation in demand and product quality a company try to keep production engineers who will meet the demand by customers.

Power plant- Thermodynamics,R & C,heat and mass transfer,applied thermodynamics are the basic subjects in this field which are in great demand.If any company is engaged in production then it has many points where energy interaction take place and mechanical engineers are specially recruited to handle these points with optimized efficiency.

Solid mechanics/propulsion- Aerospace industry need good command on mechanics and mechanical structures which will able to tolerate the stresses during flight.Sound knowledge on theory of machines,kinematics of machines,vibrations can give you job in aerospace industry.
