Of course you can join Merchant Navy after completion of class 10. There are Deck Cadet Course spanning for 3 Months. Such courses are Diploma in Applied Science or Deck Watchkeeper. It provides the Cadet Pre-sea Training as well as onboard training of 24 Months. The Cadets learn to load ships, store cargo, handle gear, stationary rigging, and running gear, and learns ship stability, ship manoeuvring and ship management and perform a variety of operations and maintenance tasks to preserve the painted surface of the ship.

The Merchant Navy refers to the commercial fleet of ships that carries goods, cargo, and passengers by sea. It is a non-combatant maritime sector composed of privately-owned and operated vessels. The term "Merchant Navy" is primarily used in countries such as the United Kingdom, India, Canada, and Australia.

The Merchant Navy plays a crucial role in global trade by facilitating the transportation of various commodities, including raw materials, finished products, energy resources, and more. It encompasses a wide range of maritime professions and activities, including shipping, logistics, navigation, engineering, and support services.

Professionals who work in the Merchant Navy are often referred to as "merchant mariners" or "seafarers." They can include deck officers, engineers, ratings, and other personnel who are responsible for operating and maintaining the vessels. These individuals are trained to handle various tasks related to navigation, cargo handling, engine operations, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.

Merchant Navy careers offer opportunities for both onshore and offshore positions. Onshore roles may involve port operations, maritime management, logistics planning, and ship surveying. Offshore positions include working on cargo ships, container vessels, oil tankers, cruise ships, bulk carriers, and other types of merchant vessels.

Working in the Merchant Navy can offer a unique and challenging lifestyle, with seafarers often spending several months at sea before returning to shore. It provides opportunities for travel, competitive salaries, career progression, and the chance to work with diverse cultures and nationalities.
