Indian Police Service is part of Civil Service exam.So if you fulfill with Civil Service exam,then you are fulfilled with eligibility criteria of IPS also.This civil service exam is conducted by UPSC every year once.
Eligibility criteria for Civil service exam. You should have complete graduation degree with any stream from a recognized university. And your age should be between 21 to 30 years. Important dates for Civil Service exam: Preliminary Exam: Issuing of application form from 4th Feb 2012 to 5th March 2012. Exam will held on 20th May 2012. Main exam will held on 15th Oct 2012. After clearing Preliminary exam,then only you can appear for Main exam. See this attachment for Main Exam pattern. |

Well if you want to become an IAS officer then you will have to appear for the civil service exam.The examination is conducted by the UPSC.It is conducted every year and eligible students can apply for it by filling the application form and sending it to the UPSC. If you are eligible and you have filled the form correctly then you will get the admit card other wise you will have to wait till next year .
The recruitment to civil service is completed in two phases :: 1.Preliminary exam 2.Main exam.:It consist of : 1.Written exam 2,Interview 1.Preliminary exam::It is common for all students and consist of two papers and both are of objective types. Paper 1 : (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs. Paper II: (200 marks) – Duration : Two hrs 2.Main exam:: students who will pass the preliminary exam will be eligible for the main exam.There are two optional subjects which a candidates have to choose and total 9 subjects .The main examination contains following papers. Eligibility :: The interested candidates should have passed their graduation in any streams from recognized college You should be above 21 and below 30 years .Relaxation in upper age is given to reserved caste students . For SC/ST the upper age limit is extended to 5 years For OBC the upper age limit is extended to 3 years . Number of attempts :: No of times the general students can apply for the exam is 4 ,SC/ST unlimited times and OBC 7 times . |

Dear pal,
the exam for the Indian police service is conducted by the union public service commission. The eligibility required for appearing in the exam includes 1. The aspirant should have completed bachelor degree from a recognised university . Final year aspirant are also eligible to appear for the exam. 2. The age limit for applying for the exam is minimum of 21 and the aspirant can apply upto a age of 30. Bc and mbc aspirant can apply upto 33 years while sc and st aspirant can make application upto 35 years of age. The selection process consist of preliminary exam, main exam , physical test and personnel interview. preliminary exam consist of general paper (150 marks)and optional paper (300 marks ). Main exam consist of nine optional papers. The aspirant who clear the preliminary exam are eligible to appear for the main exam. The aspirant is considered to have attempt the exam even if the aspirant has attempted preliminary exam. |

IPS stands for Indian Police Service. For IPS exams,you have to appear for Civil Service Exams. The Civil Service Exams are conducted by Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) in every year. AS Minimum Eligibility for IPS exam Bachelor degree from recognized university in any discipline. Number of attempts: 4 attempts for General category candidates. There are 3 stages in IAS that should be cleared by the candidate.
