For OBC: 21 to 33 years

To become an IAS/IPS officer is the ambition of lacs of candidate, but unfortunately not all of them able to fulfil their dream due to the lack of guidance and proper strategy.

Following few points should be kept in mind while preparing for Civil Service Examination:

# It is better to join any reputed good coaching centre which will be helpful for the candidate for proper guidance and knowledge.

# One of the major drawback noticed while self-preparing for civil service examination is that if one is not in a right track and in systematic approach by referring right books, magazines, one may deviate from the right path.

# Candidate should take periodic and regular mock tests in order to evaluate the performance.

# There are lot of examples in past where large number of candidates cleared IAS/IPS Examination without joining any coaching centre because they had proper orientation and proper strategy about what to study and when to study.

# The answers given by the candidate in the written examination should be clear, destructive, point-wise and in legible handwriting.

# Revision is most important with respect to examination preparation. Revision helps in evaluation of candidate's standard after each revision.

# Most of students indulge in studying bundle of books containing many books of different authors. It is not a good strategy. Student should study NCERT books of standard 6th to 12th and university authors

# Candidate should pay emphasis on current affairs of national & international level, political and economic issues through the medium of print media and electronic media.

# Candidate should have good conceptual clarity and good elementary knowedge in subjects studied.

# General Studies is most important section of civil service examination. Students usually worried and confused over the preparation of General Studies. In this regard, NCERT books and other renowned reference books help in consolidation of basic concepts.

# While preparing the General Studies, students should focus more on following subjects/topics which are mentioned below:

* Indian Polity
* Economy
* Indian and World Geography
* History
* General Science

# It is advisable to study in short intervals rather than long intervals. The reason behind that studying in short intervals helps in better memorisation of syllabus as well as in better understanding of the syllabus.

IAS(Indian Administrative services) is the most reputated and dedicated job.
To apply for the IAS,the student must be graduate in any field from the affiliated university of india.
Being a science background in 12th you can go for further studies for BSc. Or BA or BCom.or BBA or BCA. If you choose BSc.,then you have to concentrate on subjects like physics,chemistry,maths etc.
If you choose BA then you have more commands on history,civics,geography etc.
So,choose only that which you have more interest and which you like the most.

For IAS, you have to crack the IAS exam which is conducted by the UPSC(Union Public Service Commission).
Other than IAS, IPS and IFS are also selected from the same exam based on the ranks.

First of all you need to understand that the basic eligibility criteria

1. Graduation from any recognized university of India

2. Age limit- 21 to 30 years as on 1st August of the year in which exam is conducted.

3. India Citizen

So, the advise is to choose an appropriate graduation course for yourself and then after completing it, prepare for the IAS exam and then strike for IPS.

The exam is irrespective of the graduation course. You can give the IAS exam after doing-
- B.tech
- BA
- B.com
- B.sc
- B.arch
- B.pharma
so it is irrelevant.

But the advise is that, if you seriously want to crack IAS, then go for the course which does not put lot of pressure of you and you are able to take out time for the preparation of IAS. Now that depends on you whether that course is B.A. or B.sc.

Also, there are certain tips which you can follow and can help you in your preparation-

1) Read newspaper everyday. Subscribe to "THE HINDU". No other newspaper.

2) But, GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, POLITY needs to be given time. Start taking time for this right away. Go through NCERT. Make a goal to read at least half chapter each day.

4) In the final year of your graduation, i will recommend you to join some coaching class. Its not that you will gain knowledge there. But your knowledge will be brushed up and also the competitive surroundings will accelerate your chances to clear the exam.

>> B.A. is better for the preparation of IAS exam as the syllabus of science is very difficult and vast than the arts so you have to choose the bachelor of arts for UPSC preparation as most of the general knowledge part will complete during the graduation.

>> For better you can choose the subjects history, political science, geography or sociology for the combination of subjects in graduation and can select any one of them as the main subject in the IAS exam.

>> if you will select the geography a seat main subject as knows the basics of it will be much better as it's whole syllabus is related to back topics that you will study in begging stage and any other could choose as optional subject.

There is no such predefined course to be selected for Civil Service examination. Selection of stream should be totally done keeping in mind which optional subject you are going to take for the Civil Service mains examination.

If you are willing to take any subject of science stream as optional subject then you must take bachelor of science. It must be done on own interest rather on others suggestion.
