To be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced examination, Candidates must be in top 20 percentile of high scorers of their 12th board examinations or they must have secured aggregate of 75% (70% for SC/ST) of marks in 12th standard board examinations. To be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced examination, the candidate must have secured top 1,50,000 rank in JEE Main examination. A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced examination, a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.

Any student who is appearing or has appeared for Intermediate exams can take JEE-Main. The eligibility criteria for JEE-Advanced is different. Those who plan to write JEE-Advanced should have cleared certain cutoff marks in JEE-Main and also meet a minimum board exams criteria which is 75% or 70% in case of SC or ST. The cutoff varies from year to year.
