If i get a PhD or M.E./M.Tech in engineering from an IIT, can i be a researcher-explorer in space like Stephen Hawking?

You should be excellent in your field to become something like Stephen Hawking. If you have strong fundamentals and have got an excellent academic record in terms of research at international level, then you will have a good chance.

Hence, just be passionate about your aim and try to be excellent in your field. If you are exceptional in your field, then surely you will be noticed.
