After qualifying for the UGC NET Exam there are a few steps to start your PhD:

1- The student will have to apply to the universities of his/her choice. For some Universities, the student has to give entrance tests and few Universities exempt you from entrance tests.

2- Depending upon the interest area of the student, he/she will have to meet and finalize his/her area of research and the supervisor beforehand.

3- The admission to a course depends upon whether the selected supervisor has a slot available for taking up new scholars or not.

4- In many cases, JRFs will get preference to non-JRF candidates with UGC-NET.

Procedure for admission in PhD for UGC JRF qualified candidate'

Talk to a faculty member with whom you want to do a Ph.D. in the department.

The Ph.D. portal opens around May, send your application with the proposal.

If you have NET/JRF you will be called directly for the interview otherwise you have to clear the common entrance test for Ph.D. and pass it by a minimum of 50%.

Many cases jrf will get reference to non jrf candidates with UGC net.

Those who have qualified NET JRF or UGC CSIR joint test , candidates can persue in their respective PG disciplines .

They can choose university/college from NET coordinating institutes and enroll themselves for persuing PhD at different university/institutes and IIMs

Such candidate is exempted from entrance exam and directly appear for an interview.

UGC JRF (University Grants Commission Junior Research Fellowship) is a test to determine eligibility for college and university-level lecturership. A JRF certification benefit is you get exempted from giving entrance examination for admission into PhD or MPhil courses at some universities but some universities conduct their own entrance tests for admissions into PhD and MPhil.

The score of NET is valid for a lifetime whereas the score of JRF is valid only for 3 years.

°°° Usually the candidates who are interested to take admission in PhD have to appear in the the entrance examination of the respective University for the desired subject however, those candidates who have qualified JRF are given some concession to appear directly for the interview for pursuing PhD.

You have to decide that in which university you want to take admission and then you have to appear in the personal interview to pursue PhD.
