I am currently doing PGDM. But i regret that decision. I also have an engineering degree in ECE. Is it a good idea to write GATE and get back to the engineering stream?

The purpose of GATE exam is to test students knowledge and understanding of their UG level subjects in engineering and Science.
If you are interested then you can pay for GATE and enter into engineering field.
If you enjoy engineering , then its a good option for.
GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR laboratories and sponsored projects.

The decision to drop out of your PGDM course and getting back to technical field should be your own.

But, as you have mentioned that you are regretting your decision to get into PGDM course so no point in continuing the same if you have fair amount of interest in your engineering discipline.

If you are interested in your engineering discipline, then you can get back to GATE Preparation as it would allow you plenty of options of government jobs through PSUs, M.Tech. courses in top and demanding specialization from top technical Institute including IITs, etc..

If you are not feeling well and feeling regret, you can appear for the GATE and on the basis of performance in the examination get back to the engineering stream and pursue M.Tech course.
