You must possess a 5½ years MBBS degree. You should have 2- 3 years M.S. (Neurosurgery) - compulsory qualification to become a Neurosurgeon. Other option available is M.Ch (Neurosurgery) for super specialization in the field of Neurosurgery. |

Aspiring candidates have to follow the below given steps to become a Neurosurgeon-
Step 1- ----After completing MBBS degree course and one year and six months compulsory training one has to go M.S. Neurosurgery. Aspiring MBBS doctors have to appear in postgraduate medical entrance tests like All India Post Graduate Medical/ Dental Entrance Exam and Jawaharlal Institute of Post graduate Medical Education And Research Entrance Exam. Some Institutes also provide admission on the basis of marks obtained in MBBS course and experience of the Aspiring candidates. Step 2- ----After completing M.S. Neurosurgery the Aspiring candidate can enroll for M.Ch Neurosurgery- 5 years course for super specialisation in the field of neurosurgery. Step 3- ---After completion of 3 years of MS neurosurgery, course and getting the request registration from medical council of India, the budding neurosurgeon can get jobs in a reputed Government and private hospitals. |

Re: Steps to become a Neurosurgeon for an MBBS student?
Candidates aspiring to become Neurosurgeon must possess a 5½ years MBBS degree followed by 2- 3 years M.S. (Neurosurgery)
Before starting residency training, aspiring neurosurgeons must complete four years of undergraduate school followed by four years of medical school. Neurosurgeons then take six to seven years of neurosurgical residency training. Usually, one to two years are spent in preparation to get a 6 years course. If a graduate tries to do neurosurgery after finishing general surgery (MS), he/she will become neurosurgeon after 7 years (3 y (MS)+1y (preparation)+3y (MCh)). |
