The question paper has altogether ten questions; the first question involves numericals and theory and is of 16 marks denomination, while all the other questions are of 12 marks each. The students are required to answer eight questions, but there are no compulsory questions on the paper. The first question is a longish question which is sometimes half theory and half mathematical problems. The questions are set from a wide range of topics on the syllabus and therefore students are required to do a thorough study of the syllabus. The topics of the questions are based on the duties of the underwriter and they are chiefly application oriented questions. Some of the questions are evaluating the risks involved in the insurance of deck cargo, tail-end of transit or summarizing the liabilities included or excluded in the Collision Liability Clause. All the answers require an in depth knowledge of the subject and hence thorough study is necessary. Some question papers have short notes.
