Mangalore University Arts SYBCom- 3rd Sem General Proficiency and Communicative English Papers are based on testing a student’s basic understanding and proficiency in grammar and communicative English. This includes questions on the correction of sentences, use of appropriate capitalization, the formation of proper reference footnotes or endnotes according to established practice, fill in the blanks for direct and indirect speech, the insertion of appropriate words in sentences where blanks are present, the changing of tenses, the conversion of speech and insertion of phrases and clauses, comprehension, writing of short paragraphs on certain situations or topics provided and so on. The paper’s grammar section can be quite high scoring and this should be prepared for extremely carefully by the student. The general proficiency section of the paper consists of comprehension, where a small paragraph is provided to the student who then has to answer a number of short questions based on information contained in the passage.
