The Mechanical Engineering papers of Pune University include the manufacturing processes of machines and systems. The paper that deals with this solely is the Manufacturing Process paper. There are two sections and 6 units in this paper. One question from each unit is mandatory and both the sections have equal units i.e. 3 each. The different ways of manufacturing the parts of a machine, combining them to form a structure and finally ensuring about their correct functioning is what this paper is all about. These steps are achieved under the canopy of the theoretical literature of the whole process and support of the practical work. So the paper starts with introduction to metals and alloys, study of their properties, behaviours, tendencies and characteristics. The formation processes are inclusive of shaping, moulding rolling, casting and forging while the machining processes are inclusive of grinding, drilling and welding mainly. Apart from these basic inclusions, the syllabus includes comparison methods and outcomes wherein comparisons are derived between manufacturing characteristics and testing techniques. The positive and negative features of engineering materials are also there.
