Topology is a mathematical study of space and dimensions that was developed in the early 19th century. The focus of the subject is on sets and geometry and there are many branches of topology like algebraic topology, geometric topology and point-set topology. The content encompassed by this mathematical division is enormous and the individual branches entail separate conceptual foundations. Geometric topology delineates the ideas of low-dimensional topology like knot theory which is further broken down to knots, braids and links. It covers a wide spectrum of information about knots from its types to examples such as torus knot, alternating knot, prime knot in knot types, and skein relation, knot polynomials in knot invariants. Ideas about surfaces and three-manifolds are also taught with the help of examples. Algebraic topology is more about homology and homotopy theories. It is based on simplex, chain, cohomology, chain and applications including all homology types (cellular, relative and singular).
