Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Graduate School Admissions requires very basic knowledge in Biology and hence the syllabus for the subject contains elementary topics. The syllabus is divided into two sections namely zoology and botany and hence topics revolve around the fundamental phenomena in animals and plants. It provides magnanimous platform of study about cell, its structure and function, genetics and heritance, human respiratory system, excretory system, skin and its layers, physiological functioning of brain, nervous systems, heart, kidneys, neurons, arteries and all other basic units of life, reproduction and development, major human diseases and their control, vital concepts of immunology, biotechnology, ecology and environment (biosphere comprising of atmosphere, lithosphere and hydrosphere), biotic and abiotic components, biodiversity, food chains, physical features of microbes like fungi and bacteria, animal kingdom and the divisions among the species highlighting their anatomy, locomotion, reproduction and excretion, plant morphology, elementary processes like photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration.
