You can choose to study any of the streams of your choice. There is no specific area requirement as the qualification required is graduation. So you must select the one in which you are good in and can excel. You can appear in the final year of the graduation. In the mean time as part of the preparation make sure to read the newspaper regularly and keep yourself updated on the current affairs section.

Hello friend,
The civil service examination is conducted by UPSC for IAS.
To take the test, you must be a graduate between the age limit of 21-30 years. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category can give the exam up to the age of 35 years and candidates belonging to OBC's are eligible up to the age of 33 years.

As far as stream of study is concerned, I think you should move on with the subjects of your expertise and interest. Whatever subjects or whichever stream you follow, you will need to have good knowledge in subjects such as General studies and English. Apart from this, i am providing you with the syllabus of IAS exam which will help you to understand and prepare for the examination.

The IAS examination comprises of preliminary exam (CSAT) and Main examination.
The current syllabus for the IAS examination are as follows
Civil Service Aptitude Test

Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change

Paper 2

Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level),
Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level)
English language comprehension skills (Class X level)

The compulsory subjects for the Main exam are one Indian language, English, Essay and General studies.
As far as optional papers are concerned, you will have to choose any two subjects out of the following list
Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mechanical Engineering Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology Electrical Engineering Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian,History, Zoology,Law.

Since you have got enough time, you should carry on your studies with the subjects and area of your interest. Taking one step at a time is always better for a successful career.

Hii..
Well both of the subjects are good on their own perspectives. the subject matters when you are in the graduation level. so a subject which would bear you more opportunities in the future would be beneficial.. for that if we take the commerce side then i may say that commerce is not giving you the diverse choice of subjects while as you choose science then there are the most diverse collection of choices you may get you could opt either of the streams- medical(biology) or engg.(maths) side and based on them you could get many subjects in IAS among them.
In my opinion you should go for science side as it is offering you a good opportunity.

do IAS you need to know something about economics. And you should do an

easy degree as your aim is to join IAS and just to do a degree.

To become an IAS officer you have to apply for the civil service examination.
For civil service examination the qualification required is graduation.
So its not necessary to choose a specific branch for the IAS exam.
You can choose any stream and have to complete graduation to apply
for the IAS exam.

But one thing I want to say you that in civil service examination in paper
mostly the topics that are asked are related to politics, history and all.
So its good if you choose arts stream if you want to do preparation for
the IAS exam after 10th class.

This exam is conducted by the UPSC. For more information about this
exam visit the UPSC web site www.upsc.gov.in

well it doesn't matter which stream you chose as all people get the same opportunity to
clear exam . civil service exam is based on such a pattern that every stream people
can crack it but to some extent it provide little advantage to students who have got
ARTS SUBJECT in their class 11th and have done BA.because lot of question asked
are directly related to history ,geography .

And moreover ARTS students have opportunity to prepare for exam while studying as
their syllabus is easy and hence they can prepare .

if you are sure that you want to become IAS then it better if you opt ARTS .

changes in exam pattern in preliminary exams :

You can choose any of the stream after 10th to be eligible for IAS examination. Minimum educational qualification to appear in this examination is to be graduate in any of the stream.

So you can choose any of the stream at 10+1 and 10+2 standard. But choose the stream with not only of the aim of IAS, also plan other goals along with IAS as an alternative.

For more information about this
exam visit the UPSC web site www.upsc.gov.in
Thanks

You can choose to study any of the streams of your choice. There is no specific area requirement as the qualification required is graduation.
