Koriya District, which is also spelled as Korea District is one of the districts in the north-western part of the state of Chhattisgarh in the central part of the nation. The city of Baikunthpur is the administrative headquarters of the district and the district was established in the year 1998 on the 25th of May during this year is was carved out of the Surguja District. Initially, the district was actually located in the state of Madhya Pradesh and after the formation of the state of Chhattisgarh, the Koriya District was brought under Chhattisgarh state. The district is bifurcated into two assembly constituencies, 674 villages, five blocks and four tehsils.

Transportation in Koriya District:

The district is well-connected by road and rail transportation services. The nearest railway junction is at Bilaspur, while an airport is located at a distance of about 364 kms from the district, which is at the capital city of the state Raipur. The district is popular for its coal mines and some of the major deposits of coal are located in different parts of the district.

About the Government Colleges:

All the three government colleges offering education in the Koriya District are functioning under the control of government of Chhattisgarh and they offer education in the faculties of arts, science and commerce. Some of the college also offer PG course in these subjects and of these colleges the Vivekananda College at Manendragarh has got good name and there is a heavy competition among the students of the district to get admission to this college. Admission of students to all three colleges are done based on the merit secured by candidates in the qualifying examination, which is higher secondary qualification from a recognized board of education preferably from the higher education board of the state of Chhattisgarh. However, education in offered to candidates with higher secondary from the other state boards or central board of secondary education of India.

Thus, Koriya District, which is served by these three government colleges is developing in its education scenario and many new colleges under the private sector are to be introduced in the district.
