Government Jobs in Optometry Sector
Optometry is a eye care profession dealing with problems in eyes and connected issues with respect to vision information processing, visual systems and vision in humans. The professionals in this sector are called as Optometrists, they are healthcare professionals who have completed their course in optometry, and these professionals offer primary vision care inclusive of sight correction and testing.

Educational qualification needed for finding jobs in the optometry sector:
To become a professional in the optometry sector, candidates must have completed their Bachelor of Optometry. Candidates who have completed their 10+2 in science stream with not less than 50% of marks can join the Bachelor of Optometry course. There are also higher studies options like DOMS/MS/MD in optometry and candidates who have completed these courses can find employment opportunities in government-run eye hospitals and multi-specialty hospitals.

Recently, the following government organizations issued job notifications calling for applications from eligible candidates for the position of Optometrists:
• Employees’ State Insurance Corporation of India, Indore
• Employees’ State Insurance Corporation of India, Hyderabad
Candidates can also find job opportunities in government-run hospitals in the eye care department and there are also government-run eye hospitals, where candidates can find job placements.
Salary for Optometrist in Government jobs:
Apart from the above-mentioned government organizations, several other organizations also frequently call for applications from eligible candidates in the optometry sector. Government organizations offer a pay scale of Rs.5200-20200 plus a GP of Rs.2800 for the position of Optometrist. Therefore, these professionals come under pay brand 1 in government organizations.
Future job prospects in the optometry sector:
Optometry is a growing profession and according to a statistical report one in every three people is facing some problem or another relating to eye and therefore, there is a heavy demand for eye specialists not only in government organizations, but also in a number of other private-run hospitals as well. To reduce the risk of incidence of blindness in the country by the year 2020, the country is looking for ophthalmic professionals; however, the demand is lesser than the supply. It has been estimated that the country require 40,000 optometrists to meet the requirement of the health care industry. On the other hand, the present supply is only 10,000 optometrists and therefore to meet the demand, there is a heavy demand for professionals in the optometry sector.
