This entrance exam is held by Jawaharlal Nehru University for admitting selected candidates to the M.Phil/Ph.D programme conducted by School of Social Sciences. This post graduate school is offering M.Phil, Ph.D and direct Ph.D programmes in Studies in Science Policy at one of its nine centers, the Centre for Studies in Science Policy.

Structure of JNU Studies in Science Policy Entrance Exam

There will be only written test for entrance exam. That test will test the knowledge of the candidates in the following areas.

  • Basic concepts and perspective in the following subjects such as Sociology, History, Economics, Environment and Development studies
  • How science and technology influencing Indian Society and S&T issues such as Biodiversity, Intellectual Property Rights, Environment Regulation and Ethics
  • White, Blue and green revolutions and its impact on society
  • Comparison of science and technology development in India with other countries like Western Europe, USA, East Asia, China and Japan
  • How development in science and technology in India influence the social relevant matters such as employment, industrialization, poverty alleviation, human resource development etc
  • Understanding issues in society related to science during contemporary period such as environment and society, nanotechnology revolutions, ethics and ethics etc
  • Policies regarding science and technology and their issues with S&T organizations, their funding etc

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria is as follows:

For M.Phil/Ph.D: Candidates should posses any of the following qualification:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Science with 55% marks
  • Master’s Degree in Humanities with 55% marks
  • Master’s Degree in Law Management with 55% marks
  • Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences with 60% marks
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 60% marks
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technology with 60% marks
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine with 60% marks

For Direct Ph.D: Candidate should possess M.Phil degree in either Natural or Social science subject and should have published any work related to the topic, science policy studies. For these candidates entrance exam is not needed to seek admission.

How to Apply?

Different fees are specified for each field of study. Application fee specified for different category is given below

General/OBC category: Rs.220 for one field

Rs.430 for two fields

Rs.600 for three fields

SC/ST/BPL/Physically Challenged: Rs.110 for one field

Rs.215 for two fields

Rs.300 for three fields

Application forms can be obtained from the JNU office by the candidates. For this they need to take demand draft of specified application fee from any nationalized bank. Then they should send this draft to the office with a self addressed envelope.

How to fill the Form?

It is better to read the check list in the brochure before filling the application form.

The applicants should preferably fill the application form personally with black ink. Capital letters should be entered by the applicant while giving information. In some places there will be bubbles for specifying required information. Applicant need only to darken that bubbles which represent their choice. If an applicant ha darkened a bubble which does not correspond to the preferred choice then he/she should cover that bubble with white fluid. Then he/she can darken the bubble which corresponds to the preferred choice. Applicant should enter their name, guardian’s name and date of birth as it is in the SSLC or Degree certificate. Send application forms to the authority only after completing all the information specified on the form.

Last Date of receipt of Completed Application form: 3rd Week of March, 2012

Date of Examination: 3rd Week of May, 2012

Declaration of Result: Last Week of June, 2012

Interview: 2nd Week of July, 2012

JNU entrance exam is conducted at an All India level. So students need a very good preparation to clear the exam. Read books that cover different subjects specified for the exam. Important points should be noted down by the students. By practicing this, students can memorize the key points of the topic. Study little from each topic in a day. This will avoid getting bored of studying same subject whole day. Students should determine a time to finish each topic in a day. Good time management will help the students to complete their topics in time. Joining a coaching center will improve the student’s skill to attend the exam. They should undertake mock test which can boost up the student’s confidence to attend the exam. Avoid giving stress to the mind by studying continuously. Relax some time from studying.

How and Where To Get the Results?

JNU official website will give the results of this exam. Interview will be there for the candidates who had qualified the entrance exam. Venue and date of the interview will be intimated to the candidates by post.
