Geospatial engineers can opt for careers in areas like data analysis, project management, computer programming, system administration etc. They can take up roles such as Geospatial Information Scientist, Software Analyst, Quality Analysts, Sales etc.
There are over 130 GIS training institutes in India. These include reputed institutes like CSRE, IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, NIT Warangal, Indian Geoinformatics Centre, Chennai, Institute of Environment & Geo-Informatics, Delhi. These institutes offer various types of courses like M.Sc in Geoinformatics, M.Tech in Geoinformatics, P.G. Diploma in RS & GIS. Some institutes like National Centre for Human Settlement and Environment, Bhopal offer short term diploma courses.
Each year the Directorate of Education of Delhi announces scholarships for 8th standard and 9th standard students. To avail this scholarship the students will need to appear for the scholarship exam. 8th standard students need to appear for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) and 9th standard students need to appear for Junior Science Talent Search Examination (JSTSE). There is no examination fee for appearing for either of these tests. The exam pattern and eligibility criteria for each of the tests are mentioned below.
IIMC, IITK and IITM have jointly announced admission for the next batch for Post Graduate Program for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing. The course is scheduled to commence on 3rd April 2014. Candidates with engineering qualification and minimum 4 ½ years relevant work experience can apply for PGPEX-VLM. The total course fees is Rs. 900000/- and the last date to apply for the course is 29th November 2013.
Central universities offer post graduation, integrated post graduation and research Programmes. M.A and M.Sc course are the post graduation course offered for which graduation is the minimum qualification required and age limit to apply is 24 years. For the integrated courses offered in arts and science stream 12th passouts who are not over 20 years of age can apply . Ph.D course are offered in English, Physics and Chemistry. Only candidates who have completed Masters course can apply.

Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) offers Graduate and Post graduate degree program. The duration and fees for each of the programs vary. For graduate degree program and MCA course the duration is 3 years. The duration for the Masters course in Commerce, Arts, Law and Management is 2 years. The university also offers Integrated MBA program (BBA+MBA), the duration of which is 5 years.
