Indo Tibetan Border Police Force is a central armed police force trained in disaster management. The force is also trained in biological, nuclear and chemical disasters. The force was formed on October 24, 1962 and was later restructured in the year 1978 after some addtional responsibilities and tasks were introduced. The force has its headquarter located at New Delhi. Mr. Ranjit Sinha is the Director General of the force. Providing security to the sesitive installations and checking illegal immigration are two of the major functions performed by the force. The force came into existence with the aim of providing security along the country’s border with the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
