The Women’s College, Paralakhemundi was founded in the year 1983 as a junior college offering intermediate course in arts. Later from the academic year 1997-98, the college began to offer degree course in arts faculty with affiliation from Berhampur University.

Courses offered:

As mentioned earlier, the college is offering intermediate course and degree course in arts stream. The degree course is offered both in pass and honors subjects and the details of the course is as follows:

Bachelor of Arts (honors):

Bachelor of Arts (Pass):

• Political Science

• Economics

• History

In the pass course, the compulsory subjects are environmental studies, Indian society and culture, M.I.L and English. The optional subjects are society & education, Landmarks in Indian History, Indian Economics and Indian Polity. The fee structure for both the courses is decided on the basis of Government norms.

Reservation of seats:

Out of the total number of seats allocated by the government and affiliating university, 8% of the seats are reserved for SC category, 12% for ST category, 2% for children of freedom fighters & martyrs, 2% for children of Bonafide Burma repatriates, 4% for children of Government employees, 1% for children of ex-servicemen, 1% for serving defence personnel, 5% for Oriya Students and 3% for students with disability. In the admission process weightage will be given to students with sports certificates and NSS participation certificates.

Facilities at the college:

Women’s College is offering several facilities like Red Cross, NSS, sports, library, hostel and scholarships to deserving students. The college library is regarded as the storehouse of knowledge, it contains more than 6000 more for reference purpose, and the students are offered the facility to borrow books form the library. A students’ union is also functioning under the college and the students authorities for this union are selected through election conducted by the college every year.
