The year 1987 is an important year in the history of the taluk of Tiruchendur since only during this year a women’s college was introduced in the Taluk. The college had its origin solely on the philanthrophy of Dr. B. Sivanthi Adityan. It is a self-financing institution fully maintained by the munificence of Aditanar Educational Trust.

For the total number of seats available for UG courses offered by the Govindammal Aditanar College for Women, the following reservation rule is applicable:

• 1% for ST candidates

• 18% for SC Candidates

• 30% for Backward Classes within this 3.5% for Christians and 3.5% for Muslims

• 20% for MBC candidates and denotified communities (DNC/MBC)

• 31% of seats is for open competition

Of the total seats 3% of seats is reserved for physically handicapped candidates, 4 seats are reserved for children of ex-servicemen of Tamil Nadu origin and 3% of seats is meant for candidates with outstanding sports record.

Library at Govindammal Aditanar College for Women:

Library at Govindammal Aditanar College for Women saw its humble beginning in the year 1987 with a small collection of books and now the library has developed into a computerized library with digital collection of large number of books. The library has 463 digital collections, 118 periodicals, 35 non-book materials and 25,511 volumes of books, which includes back volumes and pamphlets.
