Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
genetic engineering is related to biology so it is necssary to have it in 12th class.but as you are fram PCM so you can go to mechanical ,civil engineering and make your carrier in them.

Prospects of Genetic Engineering are given below. You must have biology, chemistry and mathematics along with genetics as a part of biology in 10+2 level. Without biology how can you do genetic engineering. The study of genetic engineering comprises the modification of the characteristics of any organism through the manipulation of its genetic material. good luck to you. |

Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
Hello friend,
Genetic engineering involves rearranging DNA sequence in genes of living things with the help of advanced technology. As you want to go for genetic engineering, you must have biology, chemistry , physics as compulsory subjects, along with genetics as a part of biology. Now if you have keen interest to study genetic engg, you have to choose the subjects relevant to this course. All the bet! |

Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
Dear friend
Yes, Biology is compulsory in 12th to do genetic engineering. If you dont have biology in 12th exams, then sorry you are not eligible for genetic engineering. Because, if you want to do this course, then you must have passed in biology in your 12th exams. So, without biology you will not get admission in Genetic engineering, you can do some other course.............. |

Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
No need to woory about that dear you can do engineering in biotech, as you were having bio in 11th thats a boon for you you will not have much problem while studing for biotech. + you have maths in 12th, there are various colleges give chance for PCM candidates to engg. in biotech.

Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
Generally you need a +2 with Maths , Biology , Chemistry for a doing a BE/BTech in genetic engineering .
Right now you could either join biotechnology engineering after 12th and then apply for genetic engineering in MTECH by writing GATE . Or you could go for an intergrated 5 year course BTech/Mtech in IIT's through JEE . Hope this helps. |

Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
Hi....My name is Sujatha....I have actually completed singapore-cambridge A levels ( 2 in india).....I took physics, chemistry, and mathematics as my subject combination (70%).......I am keen to continue my higher studies in India.....I am interested to do either BDS OR B-Tech (Biotechnology)........I am in a state of confusion to decide between both of the choices as BDS may take more years for me to settle down in life and also the cost is too much......I am not so aware of the job opportunities in India to both of these courses......I am considered as a NRI student if I get admission in Indian university......So anyone can help me with this.....Please do consider my subject combination as well.....Thanks a lot.......

Re: Is biology necessary in 12th for genetic engineering?
Yes biology is a must.
To study Genetic Engineering, your 12th combination should have been Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Genetics. But you did not have that combination..... So you are eligible to study genetic engineering. But you can do other engineering courses in computer science, mechanical, electrical, civil, IT etc. |
