I am doing my M.Sc with biotech,may it possible to appear in ifs exam.please tell me.i know that biotech is not optional paper in ifs exam and no information is on the official site,so please help me.

Yes you are eligible for the IFS exam and you may keep Horticulture and Animal husbandry as your optional subjects.

U need to be graduate only to appear for IFS....and regarding the subject... there are many other subjects u can choose from.

Eligibility Criteria: Entry into the Indian Forest Service is open to candidates between the ages of 21 and 30 years, as on 1st July of the year of the examination, with a Bachelor's degree in Science with at least one of the following Subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Statistics, Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry; or Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any stream) / Forestry/ Agriculture; or MBBS.

Eligibility criteria for IFS:

Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Science with at least one of the following Subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Statistics, Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry
or
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any stream) / Forestry/ Agriculture
or
an MBBS.

your age limit should be between 21 years and 30 years.

The exam will held on 9th July, 2011.

The exam pattern will be like:

General English which consists of essay writing, precise/summary writing and questions to assess your comprehension and verbal ability in English.

General Knowledge which covers questions relating to the Indian political system, the Constitution of India, history of India, geography (India and world), general science and current events (national and international).

the questions will be of higher secondary level and the optional subject will be of Honors degree level.

So you can choose any of the subjects as your options and sit for the exam.

As you have completed your post graduation course in Biotech,your education qualification is sufficient for IFS exam,but age should also fulfill to apply for the exam.

Age should be between 21 to 3o years for General category candidates,for OBC 21 to 33 years and for SC/ST category only minimum age is rquired that is 21 years.

If you fulfiil with the age,then you can apply for the IFS exam.

To Appear In IFS examination, You need a Bachelor’s degree of a recognised University with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification.

So, As Per your Qualification, You Are eligible for IFS examination.

But to appear in this examination, your age should between 21 to 30 years.

Number Of Attempts -

For General Candidates - 4 attempts

For OBC candidates - 7 attempt

For SC/ST candidates - No attempts.

Yes, you can appear for the IFS exam as you are belonging to the science field.
The basic eligibility for IFS exam will be, a candidate should be of age 21 to 30 and having a bachelor degree in any of the following subjects as mathematics,physics,chemistry,stats,biology,zoolog y,botany pharmacy, engineering, and all the science related branches.

IFS (Indian Foreign Service OR Indian Forest Service )

Minimum Educational Qualifications :
