JEE stands for Joint Entrance Examination and conducted in two stages as Main and Advanced for admission in B.Tech/B.E courses.

The candidates who passed Main examination are eligible for admission in NIT's on basis of rank.

But for admission in IITs candidates have to appear and qualify in qualify in Advanced examination. The eligibility to appear for Advanced examination is :-

* Must have qualified in Main.

* Board aggregate must be within top 20 percentile of respective board.

So, if you have 74% in CBSE you are not eligible for Advanced minimum required aggregate for CBSE is 75%. To get more information about examination visit at www.jeemain.nic.in.

IIT ( Indian Institute of Technology ) and NIT ( National Institute of Technology ) are the best known technicAl colleges of India for pursuing undergraduate technical courses like B.Tech and B.E. .

For taking admission in IIT, NIT or any other CFTIs you need to qualify JEE ( Joint Entrance Examination ) held by CBSE once every year.

Also as far as you are concerned about the importance of Class 12th marks for admission in CFTIs then I would like to let you know that to be eligible for admission in undergraduate technical degree course through JEE you need to have secured at least 75% marks in your Class 12th in case you belong to general category. Relaxation of 10% is allowed for SC/ST and PWD category candidates. Apart from this student failing to satisfy the mentioned requirement but managing to lie within the top 20 percentile candidate of their concerned board of education are also eligible.

So having completed your Class 12th with 74% marks your are eligible for admission in NIT and IIT only if your qualify JEE as well as you satisfy the percentile norm unless you belong to SC/ST or PWD category.

For more details regarding JEE you can refer to its official link www.jeemain.nic.in.

To be eligible for admission in IIT ( Indian Institute of Technology ) and NIT ( National Institute of Technology ) you need to qualify JEE held by CBSE once every year.

JEE refers to Joint Entrance Examination and it includes JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced .

Now as far as you are concerned about the importance of Class 12th marks for appearing in JEE to be eligible for admission in IIT and NIT then yes it is certainly important as you are required to secure at least 75% marks ( or 65% in case you belong to SC/ST and PWD category ) in Class 12th from a recognized board. Apart from this students managing that much aggregate that makes them lie within the top 20 percentile candidates are also eligible.

So having passed your Class 12th with 74% you are eligible for admission in IIT or NIT only if you belong to SC/ST and PWD category or satisfy the percentile criteria.

IIT stands for Indian Institute of Technology and to get admission in it candidates have to qualify in Advanced stage of JEE as well as be among top 20 percentile score.

Admission in NITs is offered on basis of Main rank. So, if you qualify in Main stage you will be eligible for admission in NITs.

So, you need to prepare for examination and qualify in it for admission.

To get admission in IIT or NIT after completion of your 12th standard from a Government recognized board, you have to appear in JEE Main and Advance examination. Only candidates who have qualified and secured top 200000 rank in JEE Main examination are eligible to appear in JEE Advance examination. So, you need to secure good rank in JEE Main or Advanced examination to get admission in NIT or IIT.

First check the cut off for top 20 percentile of your respective board as it varies for state, central and other board.

There is also different cut offs for reserved category candidates. If, you are among top 20 percentile you will be eligible for IIT after clearing Main and Advanced stage.

For admission in NITs, you have to appear and qualify only in Main examination. Candidates passed 12th with minimum 45% in PCM are eligible to appear for examination.
