Don't worry about the income its really very high in range.
After completing your 4years course of B.tech you the option to join as a Marine Engineer in the Merchant Ships by completing One Year Pre-Sea Graduate Mechanical Engineering Course (GME).

I am a masters student in Indian Maritime University and i must tell you , the scope of this field is limited to abroad or if the institute is providing good placements else god bless you, I would suggest if you are getting good institute like IIT or CUSAT join them or else dont even think of gettting in this field unless you are sure of getting placed after the course.

Frankly speaking,B.Tech Shipbuilding and Naval Architecture is useful only if you want to join Naval forces as private ship building .

In India it is still not very big and has long way to go.

However you may find jobs in government sector like Ministry of Transport and Shipping and Research Institutes.
