dear sir i am a ipcc stdent and want to be a irs officer please guide me

Hi,

To become an IRS officer, you will have to appear for civil services examination which is conducted by UPSC every year.

Official website: www.upsc.gov.in

You should be graduate from any stream to be able to appear for this examination.

This examination has two stages:

1. Preliminary Stage (CSAT)
2. Main (written + Interview)

Preliminary stage is an elimination round and final selection is made on the basis of your Main Examination score.

You can choose your priority as IRS.

IRS - Indian Revenue Service and to become an IRS officer, one has to apply, appear and crack Civil Service Exam, conducted by UPSC every year after Graduation Degree.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate with good Physical Fitness, can apply for IRS, Civil Service Exam.

The selection is through three stages:-

CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - Preliminary Exam

-Civil Service Main Exam

-Personal Interview

IRS officers are the highest officials concerned with the administration of direct and indirect taxes. Candidates who perform well in this interview can become an IRS officer.

Who are eligible to apply?

Candidates who want to apply for Civil Service Aptitude Test should possess degree in any discipline. They should obtain this degree from any central, state, deemed or open university. They can also obtain the concerned degree through correspondence education or distance education. Candidates who possess the citizenship of India, Bhutan, Nepal or Tibet can apply for this exam. Age limit specified for this exam is between twenty one and thirty years. Relaxation is given for the candidates who come under privileged category. Those who qualify in the Civil Service Aptitude Test can attend the main exam conducted for IRS service. Candidates will be called for the interview based on the marks obtained in the main exam. Mental ability and personality of the candidates will be tested during the interview. A rank list is prepared based on the performance in the interview and main exam. Those who get good ranks will be given three months training to become an IRS officer.

Skills required for an IRS Officer

IRS officer should have good knowledge about various aspects of different taxes. They should have good problem solving skills as their job includes several accounting functions. They should possess good interpersonal skills and decision making skills to manage various crucial situations.

If you want to become an IRS officer than in that case you have to give the Civil Services Exams conducted by UPSC

This exam is held for 24 posts and these are IAS,IPS,IFS,IRS etc

Educatiional qualifications required is:
Graduation pass in any stream
No minimum marks required in graduation

Age-
Minimum 21 years
Maximum -30 years for all the General category candidates
Maximum 33 years for the OBC candidates
Maximum 35 years for the SC/ST candidates

Attempts-
General candidates- 4
OBC candidates -7
SC/ST candidates- No such restrictions


UPSC Civil Services Exams are held in three stages:

MAINS
Interview

  • General Studies 150 marks,
  • Optional Paper 300 marks

  • English Qualifying Paper 300 marks
  • General Essay type paper 200 marks
  • General Studies papers 300 marks each
  • Optional subjects papers 300 marks each
