IPS is the acronym for .Indian Police Service.

This is a position and not an examination. This position is obtained after clearing a examination which is commonly conducted for all the civil services combinedly
that exam is Civil Service Exam . This exam is conducted by UPSC which is a governing authority of such Central government Job recruitments.

So you have to clear Civil service examination in order to submit your choice and tell them your preference to become an IPS officer.

if you are rank eligibility criterion and personality satisfies them then you will be offered the service in a cadre.

The service will not have any extra syllabus everything is same as for IAS aspirants. or IPS aspirants .. all the change comes in the optional subject selection.

You have to express your interest only after clearing the initial three filtering stages namely. Civil service aptitude test
Mains exam
Personal Interview

So till then you have to follow the same procedure as that of other service aspirants.

To get this service you have to get the rank below 200 or 300 so that you can make an easy choice into the service.

after the allotment of service you will be given training and then you will be posted in the cadre in junior officer category.

DETAILS ABOUT IPS EXAM

IPS exam is conducted by UPSC. There are some criteria you have to follow for appearing in IPS exam.

Those candidate have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university are eligible for IPS exam.

But your age should be in between 21-30years for general candidate.
In IPS exam their is provide age relaxation for OBC candidate is 3years and for SC/ST candidate is 5 years.

The maximum attempts for Sc/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

Also you must be citizen of India.


PROCESS BECOME A IPS OFFICER:-

1. Fill up the Application form.
2.Preliminary exam is consist of two papers.
a) General studies -----150 marks
b)From Optional subject -------300 marks
3.If you have qualify in Preliminary exam then you have to go for IPS mains exam
4.After completion of your main exam you have to go for Interview.

EXAM DATE:-

Notification Date - 04/02/2012
Last date of application - 05/03/2012
Preliminary examination - 20/05/2012.

what is the syllabus for IPS mains exam?

This examination is a common examination conducted for selection to the other two All India Services as well as various other Group A and Group B services under the Central Government.

This examination consists of three stages. At stage one, there is an objective type examination called the Preliminary examination. This is a qualifying examination and only the candidates who clears this can appear for the next stage called the Main examination.

In the Main examination each candidate has to select two optional subjects, apart from which all candidates have to take a General Studies, Essay and compulsory language exam.

The Main examination is a very intensive subjective type examination for which marks are awarded. A shortlist is prepared on the basis of the Main examination and these candidates can compete in the third and final stage of exam called the Viva voce or the Interview.

>> The marks of the Main examination and the Interview are combined to prepare a final merit list of selected candidates.


Eligibility and Criteria:
A candidate must have completed their graduation Degree in any Discipline with atlest 55% from recognise universities.
Final year students are also applicable.

Age limit:

General category student:- 21-30 years.
OBC relaxation in upper age +3 years.
SC/ST relaxation in upper age +5 years.

No. Attempt:
General - max. 4
OBC - max. 7.
SC/ST - No limit.

Exam Pattern:
Preliminary Exam.
Main Exam
Interview

Physical Requirement:
Height – Male 165 cm Pahari Male (general also) & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm
Female 150 cm Pahari Female (general also) & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm
Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm
