Indian Administrative Service officers are selected through entrance exam which is known as Civil Services Examination. The responsibility of conducting this exam is given to the Union Public Service Commission.

To appear for this exam you should at least have a graduation degree. It should be a recognized course from a recognized university. If completed degree from college which is not recognized by UGC etc, then you will not be allowed to appear for the Civil Services Examination or any other government examination.

In order to apply for the exam you will have to wait next year when the forms will be made available. Generally during January or February, the forms are made available and the registration procedure starts.

Read the notification by the Union Public Service Commission very carefully and follow the procedure to apply for the exam.

You will be first called for the preliminary exam. The goal here is to clear the two written tests to reach the second stage. The marks will not be added to your final tally.

After the preliminary are over, there is a break of couple of months. During which the results of preliminary will be known and if you passed it, only then you will be called to appear for the Main Examination.

Here lies the real test. You should be able to clear 9 written tests. For four written tests you will be asked to select 2 optional subjects. Choose the subjects wisely that you find interesting and perhaps that are related to your course.
