Re: What is Distance Education?
"Distance Education", more correctly stated as "Distance Learning Courses" (DLC, the opposite of Classroom Contact Programmes, CCP) are college and university level courses that allow you to study and gain the respective degrees without having to attend classes in the institute of your choice. These courses are fast becoming a popular means of gaining degrees that are at par with the CCPs of other setups across the country and even abroad. Moreover, DLC offers advantages like personal convenience, savings on the expenses (and the headache) of travelling between home and college, scope for part-time or even full-time jobs in your home city etc. DLCs are available for MCA, MBA, BBA, MSc, MA, & other courses like PG diplomas etc.
There may be 2 types, 1. One which sends you reading/learning & test material by courier 2. Another which allows online virtual classrooms. Both these types have their own advantages & disadvantages. If you fear the loss of your material in transit (post or courier) or can dedicate fixed time for interaction with people at the college, go for type 2. But if you have limited internet connectivity or cannot dedicate the said time, go for type 1. Where you can join Amity University www.amity.edu/asodl KarROX college www.kctm.co.in IGNOU www.ignou.ac.in You can get a more detailed writeup at www.distancelearningu.com or www.mydistancelearningweb.com |

Re: What is Distance Education?
Distance education is nothing but a process of studying some course without going to college or attending any class i.e nothing but student who are because of some reason could not able to go to colleges or those who are doing job and parallely studying, mostly opt for distance education.....
but i think one must avoid distance education as much as possible as there will be loss of spirit and knowledge too and moreover most employers are not acknowledging distance education... |

Re: What is Distance Education?
Hi,
Distance Education is the study or course done without going to the regular classrooms of the giving institute or university. This is actually the correspondence course. You will get the material, read it and give the exam at the dates given by the institute. |

Re: What is Distance Education?
Distance education on the other hand is less a philosophy and more a method of education. Students can study in their own time, at the place of their choice (home, work or learning centre), and without face-to-face contact with a teacher. Technology is a critical element of distance education.
institution is deliberately selective in its students, it has more flexibility with regard to choice of technology for distance education. psychological or social, rather than geographical, in most cases. For instance, the vast majority of UBC undergraduate distance education students are not truly distant. The majority (83 per cent) lives in the Greater Vancouver Region, and almost half within the City of Vancouver. Only six per cent of the undergraduate enrolments in 1999/2000 were from outside the province (because of the residential requirement). On the other hand, two thirds of UBC’s distance students (67 per cent) were working. The main reason for most UBC students taking distance courses is the flexibility they provide, given the work and family commitments of students and the difficulty caused by timetable conflicts for face-to-face classes. Only 17 per cent gave reasons to do with distance or travel (UBC Distance Education and Technology, 2001). |
