Sir, I am lopamudra Nayak, a student of Geography at Ravenshaw University pursuing my B.A degree. I am very much interested to become a climatologist and want to do researh in this particular field. What should I do after completing B.A? Lopamudra Nayak , Cuttack

It is a unique query that one wants to become a climate person. This is not at all a conventional field of study in India as the meteorological departments in this country is hardly set up properly and therefore it has not been able to arouse any interests.

However, if you wish to take this up as a career it is a good thing because it is not conventional and instead is unique and interesting.

Meteorology is nothing but the study of Weather. It is also about studying the atmosphere and prediction of weather. Thus, here are few of the courses that are offered by some of the colleges:

1. B.Sc Meteorology - Shivaji University (Maharashtra) and ABC Government Degree College (Warangal, AP) - Science Stream Required

2. B.Tech (Atmospheric Sciences) - Andhra University, IIT Delhi etc - Science Stream Required

3. M.Sc Meteorology - Shivaji University (Maharashtra), Andhra University, Cochin Institute of Science and Technology, College of Science and Technology, Government Institute of Science etc - Science Stream Required

4. M.Tech (Atmospheric Sciences) - Andhra University, IIT Delhi etc - Science Stream Required

Thus, if you notice that all these courses required a person to be from Science background which I am not sure if you are from or not. Since you are doing BA i.e Bachelors of Arts it is unlikely that you are from a Science stream background. And therefore, I am afraid that this dream of studying about Weather may have to remain a dream for you.
