Let me tell you that as per the minimum eligibility criteria, there is no requirement of specialised degree for an IAS exam. You can opt for any subject for completion of degree as per your interest.

Re: Which specialization should I opt to study in BTech to become an IAS Officer?
You can choose any subject in BTech to become an IAS Officer in the future. You have to clear the Civil Services Examinations conducted by the UPSC to become an IAS Officer. Candidates with a graduation in any discipline are eligible to apply for the Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC. Therefore, you can choose any stream in engineering to become an IAS Officer. Civil Services Examination consists of Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination, Stage 2 – Mains and Stage 3 – Interview / Personality Test. You have to prepare well to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

You can choose any subject or stream in BTech as per your own interest if you want to be an IAS officer because there is no such specific stream required as a basic requirement.

Re: Which specialization should I opt to study in BTech to become an IAS Officer?
IAS refers to Indian Administrative Service and to be an IAS officer, you are required to qualify the Civil Services examination held by UPSC once every year.
Further, the minimum education required to apply for the Civil Services examination is a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university. So, as far as you are concerned about the selection of your engineering branch for your B.Tech degree course so that you can become an IAS officer later then as evident from the above mentioned criteria, you need not have to worry regarding the same very much as you can opt for any specialisation for pursuing your B.Tech degree course to be eligible for appearing in the Civil Services examination. There is no specific specialisation for IAS officer post. You just need to have a basic degree in any stream from a UGC recognized university to become eligible for UPSC Civil Services Exam.
Selection will be on the basis of performance in the written exam and interview conducted by UPSC. There is syllabus for the exam. Just download the syllabus and prepare according to it. |
