Look dear, you cant directly become an Income tax officer, but if you aspire to be such, then you need to sit for SSC CGL exam and thereby cracking its 4 tier you need to get highest cut off rank to be selected as Income Tax Inspector, once you get into this post, you need to clear a departmental exam after 5 or 8 years and on seniority basic you get promoted in the rank of Income tax officer.

For becoming such officer, you need to crack SSC CGL so start preparing for it, for the last 10 years paper please do refer Kiran Publications Book, there you will get all old questions which are asked till date.

Please tell about the exact scenario of "ssc-cgl". How the candidates are recruited as income tax inspector,custom officer, cbi sub-inspector. Is there a common exam for all and after that candidates recruited according to interest & merit? or one has to apply individually for each post as per notification??
and also what is the complete eligibility criteria(Educational Qualification&Physical standards)??

Dear Friend,

Income Tax Officer Exam is conducted by SSC to recruit the Income Tax Officer.

However, there are some Eligibility criteria such as:

1.Qualification:

a)you should have any degree of a recognized University, or equivalent.
As you have done graduation in B.Com, so you are positively eligible.

2. Age:
a: Your age should not be not less than 18 yers and not greater than 27 years on the first July of the year of examination
b) The age limit for the posts of Inspector of Income Tax, is 18-27 years as on March 2011

4.Application form:

a) For the next exam the application form will be available from first week of February 2011 at SSC official website at http://www.ssconline.nic.in.

b)Last date for filling of the application is 2nd March, 2011

5.Selection Procedure:

a)There will be a Written Examination of all objective type questions.

b) Then a Personal Interview for qualified students in the Written Test.

6. Syllabus: Are as below

a) General Intelligence: It consists of your ability of reasoning ,how much you can analysis a problem.

b)General English: It consists English Language and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks using verbs, preposition, articles etc, vocabulary, spellings, Grammar, sentence-structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, sentence completion, phrases and idiomatic use of words etc

c)Arithmetical Ability: It consists of problems relating to number systems, Computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions,percentages, ratio and proportions, averages, interest, profit & loss, use of tables and graphs, mensuration, time & distance, ratio and time etc

d)General Awareness: It consists of the general awareness of the environment around you and its application to society,

Income Tax Officer is a departmental promotion post, no SSC or UPSC conduct open examination for the post of Income tax officer, only the employee of Income tax dept. can take the exam of Income tax department and no other personal can take this exam.

Dear Aspirant,

Combine Graduate Level Examination is conducts by the SSC in every year. In the CGL Examination there are many more post include for various Govt. Departments. Post of Income Tax Officer is also include in the CGL Examination.

Qualification for CGL (Income Tax Officer Job) Examination:
A Graduate Degree in any Stream from any recognised university or its equivalent.

Age Limit:
For General Category: 18 to 27 year.
For OBC Category: 18 to 30 year.
For SC/ST Category: 18 to 32 year.
For PH Category: 18 to 37 year.

Exam Pattern:

Tier-I examination:

1. General Intelligence and Reasoning Ability 50 Questions of 50 Marks
2. General Knowledge 50 Questions of 50 Marks
3. Quantitative Aptitude 50 Questions of 50 Marks
4. General English 50 Questions of 50 Marks

Tier-II examination:

1. Quantitative Aptitude 100 Questions of 200 Marks
2. General English 200 questions of 200 Marks

*Education- Candidate pass degree graduation or B.com in any recognize university

*Age- above 18 years and upper age is 25 years
SC/ST candidate age relaxation decided on govt.

As to become an Income Tax Officer the first step a candidate needs to clear is to have graduate degree. If you are a graduate already then apply for the SSC exam. The SSC carries out an exam every year as for the recruitment of Income tax officer. This exam mainly falls during the month of April every year. The SSC exam includes a written examination which will be in an objective question model. Candidates who pass the written will have to go through a personnel interview. Candidates have to be prepared in subjects like English, Arithmetic, GK etc as to pass the written test. Candidates who need to get a job as an income tax officer needs to work really hard with total focus towards the subjects. Have a genuine interest towards current affairs.
