The Classification And Cataloguing question paper carries 60 marks; the students have to answer in 3 hours. All questions are compulsory and each carry equal marks. There are six questions in all. The questions are chiefly descriptive questions, such as: define and explain library classification with examples, and why we need to classify books in a library, what are the two chief aspects of library classification, describe the role of notation in library classification, differentiate with examples the concepts of pure and mixed notation, define call number and its significance in library classification, the main features of colon classification scheme, discuss the details the main features of the Dewey Decimal classification scheme. The topics for short notes are bibliographic classification, collection number, and common isolate. Section 2 has questions on cataloguing such as: the functions and purposes of a library catalogue, discuss the relative characteristics of computer catalogue and card catalogue, discuss in detail the inner forms of library catalogues.
