The curriculum of the Metallurgy course in Delhi University is an integrated structure which includes the topics in a logical and understanding manner. It is a discipline of the engineering sciences and hence the nature of syllabus is more quantitative than qualitative. There are mathematical considerations and hence the crux of the syllabus content is mainly algebraic or geometric that emphasize on the training of students in linear algebra including Eigen values, linear equations and Eigen vectors. Calculus takes up the second most important position that focuses on partial derivatives, Fourier series, sequences and series. Besides a strong hold on Differential Equations, Vector Calculus and Probability, Metallurgical Engineering provides knowledge in thermodynamics, the laws and applications of which are most crucial in this context. The syllabus content is designed according to the divisions of the subject into physical metallurgy, mechanical metallurgy and extractive metallurgy. The content varies with the objectives of the streams.
