The course of Design Technology focusses on the different technical aspects of designing and the technology behind it in cases of different objects. The course seeks to help students in understanding the fundamentals with regard to the concepts behind design technology of different products. Some of the topics taught under it are influence of increased availability of CAD/CAM on the role of designers in the product cycle in terms of control and involvement, corporate strategy used to create different storage units, objective of green design, tensile strengths of different materials, characteristics of a superalloy, determination of the use of particular materials from its properties, use of ideas generating technique in the development phase of Ultracane, characteristics of an appropriate technique, permanent joining technique, disadvantage of wind farms, advantage of nuclear power, use of energy source during Industrial Revolution, criteria used to assess value for money in relation to long term use.
