The subject of sociology is known to be a study of how society was born and its various aspects, rituals, beliefs and aims since the beginning of time. The paper in the Study of Indian Society seeks to acquaint study with the whole history of Indian society right from the beginning , its beliefs , traditions and how it has evolved over time under the impact of various historical events and circumstances. The paper is not limited to the history of society but also the transformations in the perspective of society that has been undergone by communities and classes over the centuries. Some of the topics taught in this paper are Essential aspects of Hindu doctrine, different view of the origin of caste system, untouchability and the social stigma attached to it, ongoing changes in the joint family system, aims and importance of Hindu marriage, various models of social change in India. This fully descriptive paper has 10 questions in all and all of them have equal weighate of 20 marks, but candidates have to write only 5 of them.
