The full marks of the paper are 80. The paper is divided into two broad sections, the first section is purely objective while the second section contains theoretical and conceptual questions. Part A contains 20 marks and there are 10 questions in all. Some of the questions are definition of the range of an instrument, sensitivity of a measuring device, principle of working of electrical resistance strain gauges, transverse sensitivity factor, name three different forms of polarized light, state the advantages of NDT over destructive testing etc. Part B is a fully compulsory descriptive section but it offers a lot of choice through internal choice between questions. Some of the questions are write in detail about principles of measurements, advantages and disadvantages of mechanical strain gauges, explain the shear difference method of separating principal stresses, explaining important methods such as Ultrasonic testing, Magnetic particle inspections, Eddy current testing etc. the section also has mathematical problems based on fluid dynamics.
