Please help me with the advantages and disadvantages of wifi or internet to boarding school student.
Question from Boarding Manager: Vishwashanti Gurukul School. What are the pro's and con's of providing WiFi facilities to school boarding students?

Yes, as you have asked that definitely there are pro's and con's of providing Wifi facilities to school boarding students as mentioned below :-

Pro's :-
--> By using Wifi facility in the school, the student can search for any useful information related to studies.

--> He can update and improve his knowledge, learn new things by searching information from the net.

Con's :-
--> Some students utilise Wifi facility for unwanted things in school like watching videos, downloading and playing games, etc.,.

--> Not all the students may do like this but, some of the students concentrate on net browsing during class hours and they wont listen to the class.

Installing a wifi in hostel for students can be proved to be both good as well as a bad idea, depending upon the usage manner.

Today is a generation of smartphones and m,any few people would want to switch their PC m or laptops for petty things to look for and therefore, in those cases if you have a smartphone, wifi can help you a lot.

Moreover data packs are more costlier today and many students do not wish to spend money on recharging internet packs, so again wifi as it is a one time installation could be a great savior.

The dark side is that students can use the wifi to waste much more time in social networking sites and other restricted sites and can ruin their studies.

However, it all depends upon the usage, The better way is to always use it in a proper sense.

Everything in this world has positive and negative side. Similarly providing WiFi to boarding students also have both aspects.

Pros -
- There are many learning sites through which they can learn better.
- There are many online contests and certifications as well as coachings which can benefit them and even bring good name to the institute.
- They can interact better with teachers and other students for various help.

Cons -

- They can misuse the facility leading to gambling and excess social networking leading to divertion from mainstream study.
- They can waste time in online gaming and adult sites which can have malefic effects.

Hence, WiFi facility should be given but with proper filters and bandwidth.
