CEED or Common Entrance Examination for Design is an all India examination for admission to Master of Design programmes at Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur, Guwahati, Delhi and Bombay and Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore, also Doctor of Philosophy courses in Design in some institutions.

The candidates are short-listed based on the scores secured in CEED conducted by IIT, Mumbai and ofcourse an interview.

Pattern of CEED:

More importance is given to test the creative and innovative skills of the candidate. Visual perception, design aptitude, communication skills, recognizing small problems in designing, analyzing the problems, visual-textual presentation skills, general awareness and various other topics are included in the entrance examination.

The duration of examination will be 3 hours and it will be divided in to two parts:

Part I:

Part I is for the purpose of testing the creative ability and Visual Perception of the candidates

Part II:

Part II is meant for testing the following skills:

• Ability to comprehend a given passage in English and summarize it

• Ability of expression of though precisely and

• Written communication skills

Eligibility for CEED:

At IITs and IIS:  A candidate must have completed 10+2+4 years of study or higher.

For M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore: Degree in Engineering, Design or Architecture.

For M.Des. in Industrial Design at IDC, lIT Bombay: Minimum 55% of marks are required in any of the following areas.

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent in any branch

• Degree in Architecture or equivalent

• Degree in Design equivalent to BTech.

• Interior Design Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year programme)

• Interior Design Degree (4 years) / Diploma (5 years) programme after 10+2

• Professional Diploma of NID

For M. Des. in Visual Communication at IDC, IIT Bombay

Minimum 55% of marks are required in any of the following areas.

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent in any branch

• Degree in Architecture or equivalent

• Degree in Design equivalent to BTech.

• Interior Design Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year programme)

• Interior Design Degree (4 years) / Diploma (5 years) programme after 10+2

• Professional Diploma of NID

• BFA (professional course in Applied Art/ Fine Art)

• GD Art (5 year professional programme)

For M.Des. in Inter disciplinary Industrial Design Programme, IIT Delhi: Degree or equivalent in Engineering (any branch) or Architecture

Educational Qualification for M.Des. in Design Programme in IIT Kanpur : Degree in Engineering, Design or Architecture.
