Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery : BAMS Course Details
Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery is a graduate degree. B.A.M.S is the shortened form of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery. The program is having a duration of 5 ½ years including a one-year internship program. The Central Council of Indian Medicine observes Indian Ayurvedic Education. CCIM is a statutory Central Government Body. Currently, there are 154 recognized Undergraduate and 33 Postgraduate B.A.M.S institutes in India. Once an aspirant completes the B.A.M.S program from a recognized university, they will be known as ‘Ayurvedacharya’. The syllabus of this course is a mixture of integrated topics of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. Many institutes in India offer the program. Those who have a strong belief in Indian traditional Ayurvedic system and want to know more about it can study the program.

Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery
The qualification needed for the B.A.M.S program is a pass in an intermediate program with Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Sanskrit. The candidate must pass +2 from a recognized board. The minimum age limit is 17 years. Some colleges also provide certificate programs from 1 to 2 years. Qualification needed for such program is Matriculation with Sanskrit or an equivalent exam.
Admission Procedure for B.A.M.S
The aspirants can apply for the B.A.M.S program as and when the college comes out with a notification. The application forms are available in the website of the institute. It is also available in the office of the respected college or university. Qualified candidates will be called in for an entrance test. Those who clear and get qualified in the entrance test will be called in for an interview also. After this candidates will be selected according to the merit list.

How to fill in B.A.M.S Entrance Application form
Application forms and brochures are available in the admission office of different institutes or universities. Candidates can download the application form from the official website of various institutes. The form should be filled very carefully and precisely. Correct information must be provided in the form. The information about age, educational qualification and contact details should be included. All the information should be supported by valid certificates also. It is better to take a photocopy and fill it correctly and then fill the original application as to eliminate unnecessary errors.
B.A.M.S Entrance Exam Pattern
B.A.M.S Entrance Exam will be having duration of 4 hours. There are 2 papers with each having equal time duration of 2 hours each. One paper covers the Botany and Zoology. Another paper covers Physics and Chemistry. The exam contains only objective type questions. Aspirants need to choose the most appropriate answer from the given 4 options. One mark is given for every right answer. ¼ marks will be subtracted from every incorrect answer. The unmarked answers will be considered as not attempted ones.

An Ayurvedic practitioner can obtain job as medical officer/doctor at government as well as private Ayurveda hospitals. Another option is to get into the research area as a scientist. After two years of experience in a recognized firm, one can apply for drug manufacturing license.
