Eligibility Criteria and Exam Pattern for J&K SET 2013
The Jammu & Kashmir SET agency is the authority that conducts State Eligibility Test (SET) for selecting candidates for lectureship posts in different Universities and colleges in the state. Candidates must complete a post graduate degree with at least 55% marks from any institute or University recognized by UGC. This objective model test comprises of three different papers. Paper 1 will be basically to test the teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. On the other hand, Paper 2 and Paper 3 will include questions from specific subject area opted by candidates.
Eligibility Criteria for Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (J&K SET 2013)
Candidates must essentially complete a post graduate degree in specific subject discipline from any institutes or Universities recognized by UGC. It is compulsory to obtain at least 55% marks (SC/ST/PWD 50% marks) in this level to apply for the same. Those candidates who are doing final year post graduation or awaiting results are also eligible to attend this exam. In such cases, candidates will be given a provisional admission and will be considered for lectureship only after passing PG course by scoring the specified percentage of marks. It is necessary for provisionally admitted candidates to clear post graduate level course exam within 2 years from the date of SET exam result. There is no upper age limit specified for attending SET exam.
Exam Pattern for Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (J&K SET 2013)
The SET exam generally includes three papers including objective model questions which is described below –
Paper 1
Total marks – 100 marks
Number of questions – 60 questions –out of which 50 questions need to be answered
Total Time limit – 75 minutes
Questions for the test are asked from the following subject areas.
- Divergent thinking and General awareness
- Reading and Language Comprehension
- Reasoning ability
- Teaching and Research Aptitude
Candidates who happen to attempt more than 50 questions, the first 50 questions answered by candidates will be taken in to consideration for final paper evaluation.
Paper 2
Total marks – 100 marks
Number of questions – 50 questions (Questions in this section will be mainly from basic subject area selected by candidates)
Total Time limit – 75 minutes
Paper 3
Total marks – 150 marks
Number of questions – 75 questions (Questions in this section will be mainly from basic subject area selected by candidates)
Total Time limit – 150 minutes
It is compulsory for candidates to attempt both Paper 2 and Paper 3 as this will basically include questions from specific subject areas including the elective subject options. A minimum percentage of marks are required to be obtained by candidates in each paper to get finally selected–
- Paper 1 – 40%
- Paper 2 – 40%
- Paper 3 – 50%
Based on this marks percentage obtained by candidates in SET exam, a final merit will be published.

Is the minimum percentage marks for set exam same to ph/sc/st candidates also as to open merit candidates.
