To become an Income Tax Officer, you will have to crack Combined Graduate Level Exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission. Being a chartered accountant, you will be eligible to apply for the exam as any professional course is treated equivalent to graduation, but there are no examinations conducted specifically for chartered accountants to become an Income Tax Officer.
The minimum eligible age to apply for the exam is 18 years and the maximum age limit is 27 years.

CA is Most difficult profession so don't opt it until u have 6 to 7 precious years in hand

For the Income tax officer you have to appear in the entrance examination known as SSC CGL.
SSC conducts the staff service commission combined graduate level exam for the ITO.

To be eligible for this exam ,it is must to have a bachelor degree in any stream from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks in aggregate. Also the appearing aspirants age must lie in between 20 to 28 years.

If somebody could not get 50% in Graduation but he is a Qualified CA , can he be eligible for SSC CGL.

I am chartered accountant. I want to appear for SSC exam for income tax officer. I know that first i will be posted as an ITI. Then it will take 4years for ITO. Is there any provision whereby chartered accountants could get early promotion from inspector to officer. This gap of 4year between ITI & ITO is stopping me from applying to SSC...pls help
