There are many PSU's asking gate exam marks as additional criteria.
some of them are
ONGC
SAIL

You need to get atleast gate qualified marks. to apply for these psu's

PSU's offer jobs on d basis of GATE score, but cut off marks for their elibility are quite high..about 95%ile or more.
And for private companies or MNC's u just need to qualify it, jobs only on the basis of GATE score would not be entertained, u hav clarify dere xam as well.

BUT ur good GATE score would give u more preference among others ,who are applying for d same job.

yes dear you have so many job options on the basis of GATE score, because many companies call candidates as per GATE score as: OIL,ONGC,NTPC,BARC etc.
if you have a good GATE score then you can apply in these companies as per your requirement & companies criteria & visit their official websites

sir my gate 2011 score is 540.. the scorecard is valid upto mar 2013 so will the psu companies consider my this score and shortlist me in 2012 as i will be completing my btech this year.

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

The GATE exam takes place every year for admission into the best colleges for M.Tech like IISc, IITs, NITs, BITS, and many more….Candidates who wish to apply for job as an engineer in Public sector companies like BHEL, NTPC, INDIAN OIL, and POWERGRID will be required to take the GATE-2012. The score obtained in GATE-2012 will be utilized by above companies for inviting candidates for a personal interview for consideration for the position of Engineer Trainees.

“Pre-final year students are not eligible to write GATE 2012”


Eligibility for GATE Examination:

The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE 2012:

1)Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
2)Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology/Architecture (Post-B.Sc./Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
3)Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programmes.
4)Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.
5)Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme or Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology.
6)Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institute of Engineers (India); AMICE by Institute of Civil Engineers (India)) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.

As per the new rules from 2012 all the giant PSU 's are going to hire technical students on the basis of GATE score.. They don't conduct any different written test for recruiting students..

So, Now GATE exam has become compulsory for those , who wants to get a job in PSU's like-

1.BHEL
2.SAIL
3.NTPC
4.ONGC
5.IOCL
6.ECIL
7.GAIL
etc..

So, go for GATE exam..
And try to score excellent result in GATE..

Gate score is needed for recruitment in ISRO, BARC, IAG, ICAR, NTPC ,IOCL etc. Gate qualified candidates in the Engineering discipline are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories. To pursue M.Tech/M.E program in a leading institute of the country Gate Score is extremely necessary.
