if you want earning than you start your practice in this field .. and start your career ..but if you want doing higher study than MDS is best for you.

i think as the population growth as well as the awareness towards the dental health has been increased in the near past after bds if you can start your clinical practice would be a better idea than spending time and all the money in going for mds, i if you got a real interest in academics and you don bother time a nd money mds would be the better choice.

after doing your BDS you can join any government hospitals.

also you can open your own dental clinic.but before doing that you have to take some experience by doing practice under experienced dental experts.

you can also do MD in dental fields.also you can join faculties in any top medical college.

My son Nikhil has passed his BDS exam in first class and does not want to do 1 year internship to get registration as he has suddenly lost interest in Dental and wants to pursue his career in 3D animation.Please guide me if there are any courses which he can do after BDS and which are related to dental field which will interest him?

dear sir please don't misguide the young minds.i myself have done bds and nothing else but still i have everything what a normal person can dream off (i said normal ). right now i run 3 branches of my clinic in delhi only. i have got a bunglow in south delhi. i have got 3 mercedes. what else can u dream of sir. and i feel that i m having a much better lyf than my mbbs counter parts. i have got enough time for my family there are no emergencies so i dont have to rush in wee hours of night...
as per the career in dentistry is concerned its going to boom in a few years because people wanna look good they wanna have a good profile... and as far as i guess dentistry is an asthetic science ok..... as our country develops people wud get more money and they wud want to look gud..... so be happy that u have opted for this branch because u wont be looking back after this gud luk.

there are lots of scope are there for dental doctors
You may go for higher studies like specialization in any specific domain, you may start your self practice either in your own clinic or with any reputed hospital, you may go for preparation of government sector exams after completion of your BDS degree like PSC in medical.

Career options after bds

Dental departments in hospitals,nursing homes need the services of dentists.
You can also self employ urself by private practise.There are various other resourses like Dental Hygienist Certificate Course,Dental Mechanist Certificate Course,Diploma Course in Dental Assistance.But these will not provide you with P.G degree.
doing M.D.S is the best choice after B.D.S.

i feel pity on myself and other middle class ppl who ave done bds.i cant afford to open my own clinic & if i do no guarantee of patient inflow cos many clinics at all lanes nowadays. i work at a other clinic fulltime & get paid mere 5000rs,which a receptionist or a salesperson in mall may get...

I too have completed my BDS a couple of years ago and attempted the Australian Dental Council Exam, but to no avail in my first attempt. I wanted to know of any options beyond this as opening a clinic and settling down for private practice doesnt appeal to me. Neither does working with other dentists and supporting half their practice (and getting paid Rs. 4000 a month!!). Even completing MDS doesnt entitle me for anything very special IMO... Other options please??

Options I consider are:
1. Probably an MBA?
2. Doing courses in public health abroad and then searching for a related job (abroad)

As you are a student of 3rd year of BDS,I would like to suggest you to first concentrate on study and score good marks.

After completing BDS simply join Defense services, you will get commissioned rank ( one rank higher then the initial ranks.)

If you are not interested in Defense services then go for the following options.

1. MDS
2.NDB
3.Hospital and Health care management
